User staking and delegation
Anyone holding CHR tokens can participate in network staking by delegating their tokens to providers. This allows users to earn rewards while supporting network security without running their own nodes.
How to stake and delegate
Step 1: Access the staking platform
Visit https://staking.chromia.com/ to access the official Chromia staking platform.
Step 2: Connect your wallet
The staking platform supports multiple CHR token types:
- Native CHR on Chromia Mainnet
- ERC-20 CHR on Ethereum
- BEP-20 CHR on BNB Chain
Step 3: Choose a provider
Select a provider to delegate your stake to. Consider factors such as:
- Uptime and performance: Look for providers with consistent high uptime
- Commission rates: Check the provider's reward sharing structure
- Reputation: Consider the provider's history and community standing
- Total stake: Providers need sufficient total stake to participate effectively
Step 4: Delegate your tokens
- Enter the amount of CHR you want to stake
- Confirm the delegation to your chosen provider
- Complete the transaction through your wallet
Rewards and returns
Current rates
- Base APR: 3% annual percentage rate in governance rewards
- Additional rewards: Variable rewards based on provider performance and network fees
- Rate changes: The APR may be subject to change based on network conditions and governance decisions
How rewards work
- Rewards are distributed daily based on your delegation amount
- The amount varies based on the provider's performance and network conditions
- You continue to earn rewards as long as your tokens remain staked
- Additional rewards may come from your provider's share of network fees
Managing your delegation
Checking your stakes
You can monitor your delegations and rewards through the staking platform dashboard.
Undelegating (unstaking)
When you decide to unstake your tokens:
- Navigate to your delegations in the staking platform
- Select the amount you want to unstake
- Confirm the undelegation transaction
- Wait for the unbonding period to complete
There is a 14-day (336 hours) unbonding period during which your tokens are locked before you can withdraw them. No rewards are earned during this waiting period.
Choosing the right provider
Factors to consider
Performance metrics:
- Block production efficiency
- Network uptime percentage
- Response time to network updates
Economic factors:
- Commission rates on rewards
- Total stake and delegation capacity
- Historical reward distribution
Community factors:
- Provider reputation and track record
- Communication and transparency
- Participation in governance
Diversification
Consider diversifying your delegations across multiple providers to:
- Reduce risk from any single provider's performance issues
- Support network decentralization
- Potentially optimize rewards
Benefits of staking
For users
- Passive income: Earn rewards without technical requirements
- Network participation: Contribute to Chromia's security and decentralization
- Flexible involvement: Choose your level of participation
For the network
- Enhanced security: More staked tokens increase network security
- Provider support: Delegations help providers meet stake requirements
- Decentralization: Distributed staking promotes network resilience
